It is believed that Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old great grandmother will be released to her family from a federal prison in Aliceville, Alabama. Her case drew notoriety because of it’s blatant unjustness as the first–time nonviolent drug offender was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
According to the Washington Post, a pardon for Alice Marie Johnson has been in play in the oval office since Trump’s meeting with Kim Kardashian. In an interview with Mic after the meeting Kim seemed hopeful and upbeat about the prospects of Johnson being pardoned by the Trump administration.
This will be Alice Marie Johnson’s first chance at being free since being imprisoned in 1996 and we certainly wish her well on her new journey.
